So what is this all about?
Sustainability is an essential part of our work in the voluntary and community sector.
From finding innovative ways to generate income and build and develop our local communities, to implementing ‘greener’ policies and making the best use of scant resources, the sector can really lead the way. Sometimes, though it’s hard to think of the future when your top priority is to secure funding and sponsorship to help you continue your work.
This conference aims to put sustainability at the top of all our agendas.
Inspirational speakers including Jerry Greenfield of the world famous Ben & Jerry’s, Alice Owen the UK Sustainable Development Commissioner and Kenny Boyd, who hit the headlines recently for his amazing swim from Ballycastle to Rathlin, will all give their unique views on what sustainability is and why it matters.
While social economy and ‘future proofing’ are part of creating a sustainable organisation, for many people environmental concerns are equally important. Not convinced by all the ‘green’ claptrap? There will be numerous opportunities to have your say in the sustainability debate and in Q&As with the speakers.
As well as the speakers and workshops there will be a fantastic range of exhibitions and displays including an intriguing ‘smoothie bike’, a carbon footprint calculator, a showing of Al Gore’s thought provoking film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, a truly ‘rubbish’ sculpture from Belfast City Council and much more.
